About the opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Director experienced with business development, team building, and operational management of a team of managers, scientists, and technical specialists. The selected candidate will report to the Denver Principal and be responsible for expanding our current market services, leading the team, and working with the Principal to meet financial goals.  The individual will also expand SWCA's professional reputation in consulting by providing assistance on projects in his or her area of expertise.


Although this position will direct the Cultural Resources program, professionals with expertise in other areas of environmental consulting are encouraged to apply. The position is a regular, full-time, salaried position with salary based on individual qualifications and experience.


The Denver office is a part of SWCA’s Rocky Mountain-Pacific Northwest Region, one the company’s most robust regions. The successful candidate will coordinate with peers throughout the other six regional offices. This position offers a great opportunity for team leadership as well as business and professional development in this expanding market.

What you will accomplish

  • Direct business development and proposal efforts in support of the Denver and regional business development goals and objectives.
  • Engage in and lead client management and development initiatives.
  • Lead and motivate a team of managers, scientists, and technical specialists specializing in cultural resource management.
  • Mentor/develop employees by establishing goals and development/career plans through continuous and collaborative performance management
  • Coordinate with project managers and allocate company resources, including personnel, vehicles, supplies, and equipment.
  • Assist with employee compensation planning and the annual business plan process.
  • Maintain a collaborative work environment between SWCA offices, staff, subcontractors, and clients.

Experience and qualifications for success

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’ degree in environmental planning, science, archaeology, biology, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in natural or cultural resource project management, planning, science, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of environmental consulting and markets in the Rocky Mountain Plains region.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing new business and leading major proposal efforts.
  • Proven success of leading a team of environmental professionals.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to environmental, natural and/or cultural resources, such as National Environmental Policy Act, the Clean Water Act, and the National Historic Preservation Act.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
