About the opportunity

Are you passionate about quality environmental work and the superior client service? SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking highly experienced, self-motivated, multi-disciplinary environmental project managers to successfully drive our projects throughout all phases from early planning and permitting through construction. You should have experience in California and this position will report to our Half Moon Bay, CA office.

What you will accomplish

This Senior Environmental Project Manager will have expertise in all aspects of environmental permitting, CEQA/NEPA, facility siting and constraints studies, and program management for energy and large-scale infrastructure projects. Experience in specialty areas including electric and gas transmission and distribution, renewable energy, and utilities is highly sought after. Skills include the ability to manage large and complex projects and milestones within schedule and budget expectations, multidisciplinary staff and team members in multiple office locations, and QA/QC oversight of field data collection and report-writing to support the all stages of the project approval process and environmental compliance during construction. Individuals certified as Qualified SWPPP Developers and Practitioners and Certified Professionals in Erosion and Sediment Control are highly desirable.

Experience and qualifications for success

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in biology, environmental science, natural resource management, archaeology, anthropology, geology or other related field required; Master’s Degree preferred
  • A minimum of eight (8) years combined experience in project management, environmental consulting, or ecological, archaeological or geographical studies required
  • Candidate should have an extensive working knowledge of federal and state laws (e.g., CEQA, NEPA, NHPA, CWA, and ESA) governing natural resource management
  • Demonstrated successful project experience with California energy regulatory agencies, including the CPUC, CEC, CAISO
  • Demonstrated successful project experience with California public utilities, including Pacific Gas and Electric Company, Southern California Edison, Southern California Gas Company, and San Diego Gas and Electric Company
  • Demonstrated experience with federal agencies such as Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Bureau of Land Management (BLM), US Forest Service (USFS), and/or US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS)
  • Experience with staff and project team supervision and mentoring
  • Experience and ability to manage multiple complex projects and programs, in diverse settings and with changing requirements
  • Proven business development acumen and strong, existing client relationships
  • Desire to thrive in a fast-paced, highly collaborative team atmosphere
