Do you thrive in the pursuit of excellence in technical editing? SWCA Environmental Consultants is looking for a team-oriented and flexible individual who excels at delivering high-quality work.

 

Our Salt Lake City office offers a stimulating work environment and specializes in natural resources, cultural resources, and environmental planning. 

 

 

What you will accomplish

Responsibilities:

Your role will be to edit and format our scientific reports and proposals, and sometimes lay out specialty publications. Depending on skill set, you may also be asked to create graphics for reports and proposals.

 

You should be able to:

  • Edit and format large and small reports (usually containing text, tables, maps and other graphics, and appendices) for correctness, completeness, organization, clarity, consistency, grammar, and conformity with SWCA or client style guidelines.
  • Work effectively with project managers and authors to resolve content questions, scheduling shifts, and budget constraints.
  • Demonstrate a willingness and ability to learn SWCA’s in-house templates, style guide, and quality assurance, quality control (QA/QC) processes. Maintain flexibility to adjust to other requirements.
  • Create, combine, and manipulate PDFs in Adobe Acrobat. Add bookmarks and hyperlinks for navigability.
  • Collaborate with other editors and formatters to track deadlines and style and content updates.

Experience and qualifications for success

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, Journalism, or related discipline.
  • Technical knowledge of environmental consulting, biological sciences, or cultural resources, and experience in fieldwork are highly desirable.
  • A minimum two (2) years of similar experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and other MS programs, and willingness to work in other software applications and custom databases.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Superior command of grammar, punctuation, spelling, and composition.
  • Ability to translate technical jargon into plain language.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and establish priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and commitment to teamwork.
  • Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite and ability to create graphics such as flow charts, org charts, scientific illustrations, infographics, and informational posters are highly desirable.
