SWCA Environmental Consultants, Inc. (SWCA) is seeking Cultural Resource Technicians for their Pittsburgh, PA office. These are temporary hourly positions and hours may vary depending on project specific workload. 

 

The position(s) will consist of office and field duties, as required on a project specific basis. Overtime may be required on some projects; time worked in excess of 40 hrs/week will be compensated at time and a half. Field vehicles will be provided for all field projects with potential for overnight travel. Lodging per diem will be provided in addition to base pay when conducting overnight fieldwork. Travel time to/from project location from home office or hotel is paid, when applicable. Compensation is competitive and will be based on individual qualifications and experience. This posting is the result of an initial assignment with possibility of recurring and/or permanent employment opportunities. Local experience strongly preferred.

What you will accomplish

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Conduct archaeological field work under the supervision of a Crew Chief(s) and/or Field Director.
  • Conduct archaeological survey, field testing, including shovel test pits and excavation units, data recovery, and associated field recording, including completion of field forms, digital photography and in-field mapping.
  • Assist with GPS data collection in the field. Knowledge of Trimble Handheld GeoXH GPS units and TerraSync or Arcpad Software is a plus.
  • Contribute to archaeological office and lab work, as needed.
  • Desktop file reviews of known cultural resources in PA, WV, OH or surrounding states, as applicable.

Experience and qualifications for success

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Anthropology, Archaeology or closely related field, or commensurate employment experience.
  • Completion of accredited field school or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to conduct field work in inclement weather and/or rugged terrain, for long hours and ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
  • Current drivers’ license.
