About the opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Regulatory Compliance Specialist for various locations in central/northeast Wyoming or southern Montana as part of our Sheridan, WY operations. As part of an interdisciplinary team, this position will oversee environmental field data collection, preparation and review of regulatory permits and reports, and Geographic Information System (GIS) applications. A working knowledge of the major environmental regulatory processes, including but not limited to, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans and Inspections (SWPPP), Spill Prevention Control Countermeasures (SPCC), and Environmental Site Assessments, and BLM Onshore Orders is required.   Candidate must possess project management skills, excellent interpersonal skills, show initiative, attention to detail, and motivation to acquire new skills. This position is a regular hourly position.  Pay will be based on individual qualifications and experience.

What you will accomplish

  • Provide federal and state oil and gas regulatory compliance support and guidance
  • Prepare and review regulatory permits such as SWPP Plans, SPCC Plans, and Oil Spill Response Plans, hydro static discharge applications, construction dewatering permits, etc.
  • Assist with a variety of environmental field work including SWPPP Inspections, SPCC as-builts, Phase I ESAs.
  • Manage regulatory projects and milestones within schedule and and budget expectation.
  • Assist with proposal preparation
  • Provide QA/QC oversight of field data to support report and permit writing.
  • Close interaction with clients and professionals in land, drilling, completions and field operations.
  • Ensure tasks are completed in the most effective manner with a high-degree of quality and reliability
  • Use topographic maps, GPS units, aerial photographs, and other maps and tools in the field.
  • Work closely with SWCA staff to promote SWCA’s business interests in adherence to its mission, vision, and values

Experience and qualifications for success

  • BA or BS in environmental planning, environmental science, natural resource management, geology, Occupational Health and Safety or related field required preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental consulting, project management or related work required.
  • Experience with well lifecycle compliance and a general knowledge of upstream oil and gas operations.
  • Able to work in remote areas, use ATVs or other four-wheel drive type vehicles.
  • Must be able to travel and conduct field work in sometimes inclement conditions and be able to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Flexibility and willingness to learn.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local permitting laws and processes required
  • Proficiency with Outlook, Word, Excel, and Acrobat
  • Familiarity with mapping software such as ArcGIS is preferred
  • Excellent organization, oral, written, and analytical skills
  • Flexibility and willingness to learn and implement company procedures and new concepts.
  • Ability to constantly improve methods and approaches
  • Ability to work as a member of a team, as well as independently to make decisions and complete tasks in the most effective manner
