Our Austin office offer a unique work environment in which we provide consulting services to a diverse set of industries in Central Texas, and beyond.

 

Your role will be to lead a team of cultural resources specialists, under the direction of a Project Archaeologist or Project Manager, during the execution of field studies related to state and federal cultural resources regulations compliance. You should be able to work 40 or more hours a week, with overtime or weekend work determined by project demands. You should also be able to travel and conduct fieldwork for long hours in challenging conditions.  

What you will accomplish

  • Assist Project Archaeologists and/or Project Managers with the following tasks during the completion of cultural resources investigations:
  • Supervise and lead a crew while conducting archaeological monitoring, survey, testing, and data recovery; 
  • Communicate and collaborate with Field Directors, Project Managers, and GIS staff through regular coorespondence, such as scheduled field status reports;
  • Data QA/QC, organization, and tracking;
  • Field and GPS data collection using Trimble units and/or tablets;
  • Crew leads are responsible for office-based tasks, including literature reviews, site form and technical report preparation;
  • Professionally represent SWCA in front of clients, landowners, and agency personnel. 

 

Experience and qualifications for success

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology or a closely related field required
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience with a wide range of field methodologies, including archaeological survey, testing, excavation, and monitoring required; experience in Texas preferred.
  • Previous field supervisory experience preferred.
  • Completed accredited field school experience is highly preferred.
  • Ability to travel to a location, walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather, rugged terrain, often at high altitudes, and ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds is required
