About the opportunity

We are seeking a Natural ResourcesProject Manager - Planner / NEPA Specialist for our operations in New Mexico. Candidates can reside in or around Carlsbad or Albuquerque, New Mexico or work remotely from Santa Fe, New Mexico. The position will likely require travel throughout New Mexico.

What you will accomplish

  • Serve as project manager or deputy project manager for a variety of resource management and conservation planning projects, as well as preparation of NEPA documents
  • Manage projects including budgets, technical staff, and reports related to NEPA compliance documents, particularly Environmental Assessments and Environmental Impact Statements, with secondary expertise in natural resource disciplines relevant in New Mexico.
  • Contribute to expanding SWCA’s professional reputation in natural resource consulting and research
  • Assist in the writing and development of complex natural resources planning and management documents.
  • Manage diverse NEPA processes, including water resources, alternative energy, transmission, and transportation-related projects
  • Facilitate meetings with clients and agencies, discussing NEPA topics

Experience and qualifications for success

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental planning, environmental science, biology or a related field
  • Five to 10 years of experience preparing and managing NEPA documents required (or similar levels of experience in report completion, as well as scheduling and budgeting of projects)
  • Demonstrated experience writing NEPA documents for various resources and planning projects with excellent developer and agency references
  • Experience working with Department of Interior (DOI) NEPA protocols and requirements, including for Bureau of Reclamation, National Park Service, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and Bureau of Land Management
  • Experience working with agencies directly as well as project applicants and proponents with NEPA documentation guidance and review
