About the opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants has a need for a technical editor to support the Southwest, Midwest, and Northeast offices (Albuquerque, Amherst, Chicago, Durango, Flagstaff, Las Vegas, Pittsburgh, Phoenix, and Tucson). We offer a stimulating work environment and specialize in natural resources, cultural resources, and environmental planning.



What you will accomplish

  • Edit large and small reports about environmental planning, environmental sciences, archaeology, and architectural resources for correctness, completeness, organization, clarity, consistency, grammar, and adherence to SWCA, client, or agency style guidelines.
  • Work quickly under tight deadlines while maintaining an appropriate level of quality.
  • Communicate efficiently and effectively with project managers and authors to resolve content questions, changes in the schedule, and budget constraints.
  • Demonstrate a willingness and ability to learn SWCA’s in-house templates, style guide, and editing processes.
  • Maintain flexibility to adjust to other requirements.
  • Collaborate with other editors and formatters on large projects.

Experience and qualifications for success

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, Journalism, or related discipline.
  • Technical knowledge of environmental consulting, biological sciences, or cultural resources is highly desirable.
  • A minimum 2 years of similar experience.
  • A command of Microsoft Word and a proficiency in other MS programs. A willingness to work in other software applications.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Superior command of grammar, punctuation, spelling, and composition.
  • Ability to translate technical jargon into plain language.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and establish priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and commitment to teamwork.
