    SWCA Environmental Consultants has an exciting opportunity for a part-time Architectural Historian for our Flagstaff, Arizona, office. The position will focus on a variety of office and field tasks.

    What you will accomplish

    The Architectural Historian will be responsible for all aspects of project execution, including conducting historic resources surveys and archival research, historic building assessments, and architectural viewshed studies; preparing historic context statements; evaluating resources in accordance with National Register of Historic Places significance criteria; and preparing historic resources technical reports

    Experience and qualifications for success

    • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in architectural history, historic preservation, or a closely related field required; Master’s degree preferred
    • A working knowledge of federal and state cultural resource and historic preservation laws and practices, including Arizona Historic Property Inventory and Documentation requirements and the requirements of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act 
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in cultural resources management required
    • Experience recording architectural resources on architectural inventory forms
    • Preferred candidate will meet Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards (36 Code of Federal Regulations Part 61)
    • Knowledge of the history and architectural history of northern Arizona
    • Previous field experience recording, evaluating, and reporting on architectural resources
    • Preferred candidate will have experience applying the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation (36 CFR Part 67) and experience with Historic American Buildings Survey/Historic American Engineering Record documentation and procedures
