    SWCA Environmental Consultants has a need for an Environmental Scientist / Biologist to work closely with Project Managers on natural resources consulting projects by completing local and out-of-town fieldwork and office assignmentsYou should be able to work a full time schedule, including frequent travel and occasional weekends.

     

    Our Chicago area office in Lombard, Illinois offers a unique work environment and specializes in natural resources consulting for prominent energy companies among other clients.

    What you will accomplish

    In the Environmental Scientist role you will be responsible to conduct a variety of natural resources field studies including threatened/endangered species assessments, wetland delineations, and avian/wildlife surveys. Other duties include:

    • Field work and organizing and transferring the field data, write technical reports and permit applications related to Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, National Environmental Policy Act, and other
    • Resource planning/permitting, and/or natural resource disciplines. 

    Experience and qualifications for success

    • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Botany, Environmental Science, Fish and Wildlife Science, Ecology, or related field
    • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in wetland delineations required; experience in wildlife fieldwork, including avian surveys, and erosion control monitoring preferred
    • Knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations and guidance, particularly in the Midwest preferred
    • Familiarity with GPS devices is highly desired
    • Ability to travel to a location, walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather, rugged terrain, and ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds is required
    • Strong writing skills to contribute to survey reports, biological assessments, wetland delineation reports, and permit applications
