  • About the opportunity

    SWCA's Pasadena Natural Resources Program is actively seeking an entry-level biologist/wetlands scientist to join our multi-disciplinary team in Pasadena, California.  This is an On-Call, hourly position, and pay will be based on individual qualifications and experience.

     

    In this role you will be expected to review projects for potential water/wetlands features within a client database system. You would assess whether project impacts would affect jurisdictional water/wetlands and develop protective measures for water features to be used by construction crews. Technical experience including jurisdictional delineation or permit application experience for the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB), and California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), is preferred, but not required. As an integral member of SWCA’s Natural Resources Group, you will collaborate and work among peers in a primarily office-based environment, but there may be some opportunities for field work throughout southern California.

     

    Our Pasadena office offers a unique work environment and specializes in Natural Resources, Cultural Resources, and Permitting.

    What you will accomplish

    • Conduct desktop analysis of projects in regards to wetlands and streams
    • Determine conditions required to protect jurisdictional features while still allowing essential construction work to proceed
    • Organize and update project information within a client database
    • Adhere to SWCA’s safety procedures and standards of scientific and professional ethics
    • Conduct assigned tasks in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines

    Experience and qualifications for success

    • Bachelor’s degree in a biological science or closely related field.Excellent verbal, written and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
    • Able to work independently and collaborate with a variety of colleagues and clients
    • Working knowledge of wetland and riparian plant species identification, wetland soils, and wetland hydrology indicators a plus
    • Experience as a wetland scientist (or similar discipline) in consulting or a similar work environment a plus
    • Willingness to learn, have fun, and grow into increasing responsibilities in a positive work environment.
