    SWCA Environmental Consultants has an exciting opportunity for a Natural Resources Assistant Project Manager for the Natural Resources Program in the Sheridan Office.  You will be assisting senior staff in a collaborative role in client and project management, business development, and supervising and mentoring junior staff.

    What you will accomplish


    As a core member of the Natural Resources Program, responsibilities will include but not limited to:

    • Assist in management of project requirements related to National Environmental Policy Act, Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, and other resource planning/permitting, and/or natural resource disciplines relevant in the Rocky Mountain and Plains region.
    • Prepare field protocols and reporting related to biological field studies, endangered species habitat assessments and mitigation strategies, state/local government permitting, construction monitoring, and other project deliverables.
    • Basic use of current mapping technology such as ArcGIS, Google Earth, geodatabase management, topographic maps, aerial imagery photographs, GPS units, and other mapping tools to determine exact locations of survey areas, habitat types, and to evaluate environmental compliance considerations of projects. 
    • Ability to support senior project managers, clients and agency representatives during all project processes. Critical tasks include field data QA/QC, summary reports, and budget tracking.
    • Provide logistical planning and support for large-scale field survey efforts outside of standard work hours.
    • Supervise and mentor junior level field and office staff in survey protocols, regulatory drivers, development of new business opportunities, and technical scientific development.

    Experience and qualifications for success


    • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in biology, botany, environmental science, natural resource management, or other related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
    • A minimum of 3 years of combined experience managing field projects, environmental consulting, or ecological studies. Preferred experience includes developing and implementing budgets, schedules, and scopes of work from pre-field tasks to final report preparation.
    • Working knowledge of federal, state and/or local regulations (i.e., National Environmental Policy Act, Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, Migratory Bird Treaty Act) governing natural resource management in the Rocky Mountain and Plains region required.  Experience with renewable energy projects and wind development compliance, specifically Section 7 Consultations, Eagle Take Permitting, Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, Wind Energy Guidelines, Eagle and Habitat Conservation Plans, Bird and Bat Conservation Strategy are strongly preferred.
    • Strong technical writing background required, experience including established credibility with federal and state reviewing agencies and clients, as well as success in business development and proposal writing is strongly preferred.
    • Demonstrated experience in increasing levels of responsibility, including supervising and providing leadership for other professionals preferred.
    • Highly organized, self-starter, and a strong entrepreneurial initiative.
