  • About the opportunity

    SWCA Environmental Consultants has a need for a Biologist to join the Las Vegas, NV team.  In this role you will conduct biological field surveys; this is a temporary role. 

     

    Our Las Vegas office offers a unique work environment and specializes in Natural and Cultural Resources.

     

     

    What you will accomplish

    • Conduct biological natural resource field surveys collecting observational and spatial data concerning a variety of vegetation, terrestrial and/or avian species. Use topographic maps, aerial photographs, GPS units, and other maps and tools to determine exact locations of project areas, habitat types, and associated landforms.
    • Complete biological survey reports, data entry, impact assessment, and assist in Endangered Species Act, wetland delineations and/or Clean Water Act permitting. Conduct research as appropriate and assist with proposal development.

    Experience and qualifications for success

    • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or a related life sciences field required.
    • Minimum of 2 to 5 years of experience completing biological surveys, fieldwork, habitat assessments, wetland delineations, and/or construction monitoring; experience in Southwest US preferred.
    • Knowledge of Desert Tortoise habitat in Clark County, NV is preferred.
    • Vegetation survey, wildlife surveys, measurement experience, or wetland delineation experience is a plus.
    • Prior experience with GIS software (ArcPad) and Trimble GPS units and ability to use technology for data collection.
    • Demonstrated experience in preparing technical documents.
    • Ability to travel to a location, walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather, rugged terrain, often  at high altitudes, and ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds is required.
    • Must have a clean driving record and pass a background check.
