    Do you thrive in the pursuit of excellence in GIS design, spatial analytics, cartography, and data management? SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking an experienced GIS specialist for our Denver, CO office.  This position will support our natural and cultural resources programs. 

    What you will accomplish

    • Support GIS workload with the team to ensure that productivity goals are met and that projects are delivered on time and on budget

    • Maintain a collaborative work environment between project managers and GIS specialists

    • Help ensure quality of work is consistent with SWCA's standards and practices 

    • Provide technical leadership within the GIS group, and for providing innovative GIS solutions within a variety of projects

    • Use Esri ArcGIS Desktop and/or Pro for data production, analytics, and management; and for producing quality report and field maps efficiently

    • Data management and support for a variety of handheld GPS units using ArcGIS Collector and Survey 123, Trimble GPS, and ArcPad

    • Create cartographic-quality map products using ArcGIS Desktop and Online

    • Help design, create, maintain, and QA/QC geospatial databases using ArcGIS and peripheral software

    Experience and qualifications for success

    • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Cartography, Archaeology, Biology, Environmental Science or related field with an emphasis in GIS; Master's degree preferred

    • A minimum of five (5) years of professional work beyond university attendance

    • Experience within a consulting environment and with effectively handling multiple responsibilities is preferred

    • Demonstrated proficiency in cartography and computer mapping including design principles and understanding map creation procedures in ArcGIS is critical

    • Must have keen attention to detail and be experienced with QA/QC for data and map products

    • Strong understanding of topological relationships, troubleshooting complex data sets, and applying creative solutions to spatial problems

    • Demonstrated ability for data transfer, data analysis, data mining, and data inventory using a variety of software applications (e.g., Excel, Access, Esri ArcGIS)

    • General understanding of basic statistics and geometric math computations (e.g., summary, distributions, frequency, min/max, range, angles, distance, slope, degrees, area)

    • Demonstrated experience with GPS technology, field data collection techniques, data integration to a GIS, and troubleshooting of equipment and digital files

    • Demonstrated ability to perform spatial analyses with ArcGIS while maintaining data integrity

    • Ability to produce presentations, and/or written protocol of methods for reports or within metadata to replicate GIS-related analyses or modeling techniques applied on projects is strongly preferred

    • Prior work in natural or cultural resources management, remote sensing, and/or water resources, and prior experience working with federal land agencies such as the USFS, NPS, BLM, BOR, or USGS, and with local governments is very desirable

    • Prior knowledge and experience with ArcSDE, creating database schemas, domains, ArcServer/web applications, network analysis, and/or application development is also a plus; knowledge of Python, .NET, Java, PHP, HTML, is desired
