     Do you thrive in the pursuit of ensuring excellence in environmental consulting services? SWCA Environmental Consultants is expanding their team and looking for dynamic individuals who are following their passion in delivering the highest-quality project work.

     

    The environmental monitor will conduct biological inspections and monitoring during the construction of a wind facility in South Texas. 

    What you will accomplish

    • Observe and document construction activities to monitor and verify that all work is completed in compliance with the requirements of all federal, state, and local permits and approvals.
    • Conduct nest surveys in front of construction activities.
    • Monitor and verify that temporary and permanent stormwater and erosion controls are installed and maintained by Construction Contractor in accordance with the Project SWPPP and NPDES permit.
    • Identify any areas where the stormwater and erosion controls may be deficient or ineffective and remediate situation or if corrective measures are more complex then identify to the Construction Contractor such deficiencies to be corrected as per specifications or regulations.
    • Monitor and verify that fuel handling and equipment maintenance operations are performed away from wetlands and water bodies and that the Construction Contractor maintains the necessary spill response material as mandated by the SWPPP and SPCC.
    • Monitor and verify that all environmental restoration plans (i.e. seeding, erosion control, decompaction, etc.) are properly implemented in accordance with drawings and specifications and in accordance with all federal, state, and local permit conditions.
    • Prepare daily reports of inspection activities that document compliance and non‐compliance situations where remedial action is required.
    • Prepare monthly progress meeting reports that summarize past, current, and proposed work.
    • Prepare final reports summarizing wetlands, wildlife, final restoration per SWPPP and NPDES permit, and Contractor site cleanup including temporary fueling station soil sample analysis.
    • Attend onsite meetings with construction crews.
    • Conduct training for construction workers regarding the sensitive areas and wildlife on the construction site.

    Experience and qualifications for success

    • Minimum of a High School Degree 
    • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in wildlife/environmental fieldwork required
    • Knowledge  and environmental monitoring experience in South Texas region ecology preferred
    • Knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations and guidance, particularly in South Texas region
    • Ability to travel to a location, walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather, rugged terrain, often  at high altitudes, and ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds is required
