    SWCA Environmental Consultants is expanding our team, and we are looking for dynamic individuals who are enthusiastic, independent, and motivated. Our Austin office offers a unique work environment in a great city, and we're looking to expand our Natural Resources team to meet project demands.


    What you will accomplish

    We are looking for an experienced Environmental Specialist to assist with planning and execution of projects in Central Texas and beyond. The applicant should be able to work independently for 40 or more hours per week, on a sometimes unpredictable and fluid schedule. This is a regular, full-time position, and the applicant should be located in, or be willing to relocate to, Austin, Texas.

    Experience and qualifications for success

    A core member of the Natural Resources Program, leading field crews, assisting with project management activities, and mentoring staff. Experience with and ability to schedule and oversee data collection and field studies; plan and prepare deliverables related to environmental permitting, due diligence surveys, biological assessments, project monitoring, and other requirements; and use of topographic maps, aerial photographs, geographic position system (GPS) units, and other maps and tools to carry out job functions.


    • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in biology, botany, environmental science, natural resource management, or other related field required
    • Ability and willingness to travel required (i.e., must be able to travel, sometimes at moment’s notice, and for extended periods)
    • Must be able to conduct fieldwork for long hours, in sometimes severe weather conditions, including walking at least 10-miles in rugged terrain, and be able to carry equipment and supplies weighing greater than 15 pounds.
    • A minimum of 5 years of natural resources field survey experience within central, southern, and western Texas focused on aquatic resources delineations, sensitive species habitat assessments, and vegetation community identification
    • Demonstrated experience in increasing levels of responsibility, including a minimum of 3 years leading natural resources field crews on a variety of project types and sizes
    • Must have strong writing, organizational, critical thinking, and communication skills
    • Ability to take initiative and resolve problems encountered during fieldwork preferred
    • Working knowledge of federal, state and/or local regulations (i.e., NEPA, CWA, and ESA) governing natural resource management in Texas and the region
    • Prior primary report authorship in a natural resource consulting context for a variety of project types and sizes, regions, and for a variety of agencies
    • A minimum of 3 years of experience with implementing National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Endangered Species Act (ESA), and/or Clean Water Act (CWA) permitting processes preferred
    • Experience conducting stormwater inspections and preparing stormwater management plans preferred
    • A minimum of 3 years of experience with use of GPS devices
    • Work closely with SWCA managers, program directors, and project managers to promote SWCA`s business interests in adherence to its mission, vision, and values
    • Implement and maintain safety and communication protocols for all project tasks
