  • About the opportunity

    SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Senior Environmental Planner/Project Manager with experience assisting project proponents and lead agencies and managing the preparation of environmental documents for our Pasadena office for projects throughout California. This is a regular, full-time, salaried position that is a career growth opportunity to join SWCA’s expanding California CEQA Practice.     SWCA’s Pasadena office is a well-established leader in Southern California, having provided high quality Cultural and Natural Resources services for more than 17 years. We are looking to establish a Southern California CEQA Planning Practice that will complement our existing services and work in tandem with our CEQA and NEPA experts across the region. This position has tremendous opportunity for growth, as it will directly contribute to establishing, leading, and growing this practice in the nation’s largest market for environmental services. This “cornerstone” position is ideal for an experienced and ambitious individual who is looking to advance their career as both a CEQA practitioner and as a manager, and to do so at a very fast pace.

    What you will accomplish

    • Serve as project manager for environmental documents (both CEQA and NEPA) prepared for a variety of projects;
    • Manage multidisciplinary projects and project teams of SWCA staff and sub-consultants;
    • Write various sections of environmental documents and review/edit other sections prepared by technical specialists;
    • Providing strategic and CEQA regulatory support on multidisciplinary projects;
    • Ensure that CEQA projects meet quality, schedule, and budget objectives;
    • Conduct business development, including client outreach, preparing proposals, and conducting interviews and presentations;
    • Make client and public presentations of environmental documents;
    • Take initiative, resolve problems, and identify improved procedures to assure client needs are met effectively;
    • Work closely with project managers, directors, and principals throughout the company to promote SWCA’s business interests in adherences to its mission, vision, and values; and,
    • Contribute to expanding SWCA’s professional reputation in environmental consulting.

    Experience and qualifications for success

    • Bachelor’s degree in environmental planning or a related field. Master’s degree and AICP a plus.
    • A minimum of at least seven (7) years of applicable and progressive experience preparing environmental documents.
    • Of the seven years of applicable experience, a minimum of at least three must be managing CEQA projects and CEQA project teams.
    • Excellent written, logic, organizational, oral, analytical, and document management skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
    • Ability to travel as needed for projects throughout California.
    • Willingness to learn, have fun, and grow into increased management responsibilities.
