  • About the opportunity

    SWCA has an opportunity for an Archaeological Monitor for a field assignment located in Alpine, California which is expected to last from January through March or April 2019. In this position, you would carry out construction monitoring and daily reporting, ensuring the proper implementation of project mitigation measures related to cultural resources. You will assist with GPS data collection using Trimble units or tablets, coordinate with construction workers in the field, and communicate with the SWCA Project Team through daily reporting of field activities. You should be available to work full-time for this project assignment, which is expected to include up to 10-hour days as many as six (6) days a week for 10 to 12 weeks. Opportunities for additional work on other projects is likely based on need and availability.

    This position will report to our Pasadena office, which will manage this San Diego-based project. SWCA offers a unique work environment and specializes in Cultural Resources Management and Environmental Compliance.

    What you will accomplish

    • Conduct archaeological fieldwork including monitoring, survey, testing, and data recovery. Assist with mapping responsibilities in the field, including collection of GPS data using Trimble units or tablets. 

     

    Experience and qualifications for success

    • A Bachelor’s Degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field with at least six (6) months field experience in California using a range of field methodologies, including survey, testing, excavation, and monitoring required.
    • An accredited Field School Certification is required.
    • Experience conducting construction monitoring is required.
    • Knowledge of ArcPad is a plus.
    • Current valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
    • Ability to travel to a location, walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather, rugged terrain, and ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds is required.
