    Our Bismarck office is looking for Natural Resources Team Lead to support office goals by pursuing project opportunities, managing projects and clients, directing biological field studies, and supervising and mentoring staff.  You will primarily assist clients with projects related to the Endangered Species Act (ESA), the Clean Water Act (CWA), and other federal, state, and local environmental regulations.     What you will accomplish

    • Serve as a project manager for a variety of natural resource projects
    • Manage the financial performance of individual projects and effectively coordinate with clients and agencies
    • Manage client relationships and conduct business development with new and existing clients
    • Supervise, mentor and instruct project managers, technical staff and field personnel
    • Network within industry organizations to establish and expand the regional client base and revenue in the areas of environmental planning, permitting, and broad-based natural resources services.
    • Prepare and review stand-alone biological resources reports, biological assessments, wetland reports, and biological portions of NEPA and/or North and South Dakota state permit documents (PSC, PUC)
    • Prepare protocols and supervise surveys for sensitive habitats and species; including general surveys for report writing, focused or protocol-level surveys, and pre-construction surveys
    • Prepare reports related to National Environmental Policy Act, Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, technical documents, proposals and other written deliverables related to various permitting/planning and compliance projects as required
    • Provide management plan/action plan for projects that are on an overrun track and ensure that the plan is implemented to avoid overruns
    • Primary responsibility for QA/QC oversight of field data to support report-writing, land use planning, State (DEP, EPA, DNR) and Federal reports (Fish and Wildlife Service, USACE, etc.), and permitting
    • Develop recommendations for mitigation measures, monitoring, and permitting specific to biological resources
    • Work closely with SWCA’s other staff in both natural and cultural resources throughout the company to promote SWCA’s business interests in adherence to its mission, vision, and values

     

     

    Experience and qualifications for success

    • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Natural Resource Management, Biology, Environmental Science, Fish and Wildlife Science, Ecology, or related field required; graduate degree preferred
    • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in biological fieldwork, consulting, and project management, including developing and implementing budgets, schedules, and scopes of work from pre-field tasks to final report preparation
    • Established credibility with federal and state reviewing agencies and clients
    • Demonstrated experience in supervising, mentoring, and providing leadership for other professionals
    • Advanced skills and knowledge in one or more specialty scientific areas (e.g., keying rare plants, conducting protocol surveys for special-status species, etc.
    • Previous experience with environmental surveys, research design, and field implementation on a variety of projects
    • Previous experience with federal, state, and local laws and regulations in the Western U.S., with experience in North and South Dakota preferred
    • Experience in wetland delineation following the USACE 1987 Wetland Delineation Manual; Wetland Certification is a plus but not required
    • Prior primary report authorship in a natural resources consulting context for a variety of project types, in a variety of regions, and with a variety of agencies
    • Advanced skills and knowledge in one or more specialty scientific areas (e.g., keying rare plants, conducting protocol surveys for special-status species, etc.)
    • Ability to take initiative, resolve problems, and ensure that tasks are completed in the most effective manner
    • Flexibility and willingness to learn company procedures, and ability to try new, improved techniques
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability for overnight travel up to 15% of time.
