  • About the opportunity

    SWCA Environmental Consultants has an opening for a Project Assistant who will work from our Albuquerque, NM Office.  The selected individual will be a self-directed performer with excellent communication skills and the ability to excel in a fast-moving and dynamic consulting environment. 


    The Project Assistant role will be to assist in project planning and execution and to produce and deliver high-quality compliance documents. Your work schedule will be flexible and responsive to changing project needs. Your work will primarily be office-based, but fieldwork and travel will occasionally be required.

    What you will accomplish

    • As a core member of the Natural Resources Program, you will play a key role in bringing projects to a successful conclusion.
    • In a collaborative team environment, you will prepare and deliver technical documents including Categorical Exclusions, Environmental Assessments, Biological Survey Reports, Biological Evaluations, Cultural Resources Documents, and related products.
    • You will take initiative in planning and executing on project requirements.
    • You will assist, supervise and/or prepare requirements related to biological and/or archaeological field studies, permits, mitigation plans, biological assessments, project monitoring and other deliverables.
    • You may occasionally perform biological or other resource field studies as part of a project team, using topographic maps, GPS units, and Android tablets.  

    Experience and qualifications for success

    • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in biology, botany, environmental science, natural resource management, cultural resources management, or other related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
    • Minimum of 1 year administrative and project coordination experience, preferred.
    • Demonstrated ability to play a leadership role in a team-based work environment.
    • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
    • Excellent writing skills and demonstrated ability to produce high-quality technical documents.
    • Working knowledge of federal, state and/or local regulations (i.e., National Environmental Policy Act, Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act) governing natural and/or archaeological resource management in the Arid Southwest.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel required. Proficiency with ArcGIS and graphics software desirable.
