  • About the opportunity

    SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking applicants who are interested in leading the business development, team building, and operational management of a team of managers, scientists, and technical specialists. The selected candidate will report to the Denver Principal and be responsible for expanding our current market services, leading the team, and working with the Principal to meet financial goals.  The individual will also expand SWCA's professional reputation in consulting by providing assistance on projects in his or her area of expertise. The position is a regular, full-time, salaried position with salary based on individual qualifications and experience.


    The Sheridan, Wyoming office is a part of SWCA’s Rockies Region. The successful candidate will coordinate with peers throughout the other six regional offices. This position offers a great opportunity for team leadership as well as business and professional development in this expanding market.

    What you will accomplish

    What you will accomplish:

    • Lead and motivate a team of managers, scientists, and technical specialists specializing in cultural and natural resource management, permitting and planning.
    • Mentor/develop employees and conduct performance reviews.
    • Coordinate with project managers and allocate company resources, including personnel, vehicles, supplies, and equipment
    • Initiate and lead employee compensation planning and support the annual business plan process.
    • Maintain a collaborative work environment between SWCA offices, staff, subcontractors, and clients.
    • Direct and engage in business development and proposal efforts in support of the Sheridan business development goals and objectives.
    • Engage in and lead client management and development initiatives.
    • Review the Profit and Loss Statement for the Sheridan office
    • Supervise, direct, and instruct subcontractors; take initiative and problem-solve.
    • Manage projects within schedule and budget expectations; manage milestones, subcontractors, technical staff, fieldwork, and written deliverables as required.

    Experience and qualifications for success

    Education & Experience

    • A minimum of a Bachelor’ degree in environmental planning, science, archaeology, biology, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred
    • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in natural or cultural resource project management, planning, science, or a related field
    • Working knowledge of natural and/or cultural resources and markets in the Rocky Mountain Region.
    • Demonstrated experience in developing new business and leading major proposal efforts
    • Proven success of leading a team of environmental professionals
    • Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to environmental, natural and/or cultural resources, such as National Environmental Policy Act, the Clean Water Act, and the National Historic Preservation Act within the Rocky Mountain Region.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Good understanding of financial metrics, completing a business plan, and implementing the plan
    • Ability to foster a friendly, positive, productive, and scholarly working relationship with team members
    • Must live in or be willing to relocate to Sheridan
