SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a highly experienced, self-motivated Senior Environmental Project Manager with a can-do attitude and a successful track record of assisting project proponents and lead agencies to guide projects through all phases from entitlements to construction.  


    This is a regular, full-time, salaried position with extensive career growth opportunities and leadership roles within SWCA’s strong Bay Area practice.     What you will accomplish

    This Senior Environmental Project Manager will have expertise in managing the preparation of environmental compliance reports, including CEQA/NEPA documents and supporting analyses, facility siting and constraints studies, program management, and permitting for energy, land development, transportation, and infrastructure projects. Desired skills include the ability to manage large and complex projects and milestones within schedule and budget expectations and responsibility for QA/QC oversight of field data to support report-writing and documentation preparation. The ideal applicant will be experienced in managing multiple components and multidisciplinary staff to complete project compliance requirements. Another requirement of this position is leadership in the region’s business development and proposal process to support growth throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, Northern California, and the West Region as a whole. City and County of San Francisco and Bay Area experience and established local client base are also highly valued for this position.



    • Manage multidisciplinary projects and project teams of SWCA staff and sub-consultants with large and complex projects.      
    • Meet milestones within schedule and budgetary expectations and be the primary source of accountability for QA/QC oversight of field data to support report-writing and permitting. 
    • Foster new client relationships and strengthen existing client relationships.
    • Lead business development efforts in the San Francisco Bay Area and Northern California, including client outreach, opportunity tracking, attendance at pre-bid meetings, preparation of proposals, and conducting interviews and presentations;
    • Write and manage various sections of CEQA/NEPA environmental documents and review/edit other sections prepared by technical specialists;
    • Develop and execute client and public presentations to governmental agencies, boards and commissions and stakeholders;
    • Provide strategic environmental regulatory support on multidisciplinary projects;
    • Ensure that projects meet quality, schedule, and budget objectives;
    • Take initiative to resolve problems and identify improved procedures to assure client needs are met effectively;
    • Work closely with other project managers, directors, and principals throughout the company to promote SWCA’s business interests in adherences to its mission, vision, and values;
    • Direct, manage and mentor an internal team of SWCA staff with diverse levels of experience and expertise
    • Supervise and manage professional development opportunities for direct reports; and,
    • Contribute to expanding SWCA’s professional reputation in environmental consulting.

    Experience and qualifications for success

    • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in environmental planning, environmental science, biology, natural resource management, archaeology, anthropology, geology, or other related field required; Master’s Degree preferred
    • A minimum of twelve (12) years combined experience in project management, environmental consulting, environmental planning, ecological, archaeological or geographical studies required, preferably experience within the San Francisco Bay Area and Northern California
    • Candidate should have an extensive working knowledge of federal and California environmental regulations (e.g., CEQA, NEPA, NHPA, CWA, and ESA)
    • Experience leading business development efforts and proposals in order to secure new opportunities with new clientele; established client relationships within the San Francisco Bay Area and Northern California are a plus
    • Experience with staff and project team supervision and mentorship
    • Experience and ability to manage multiple complex projects and programs, in diverse settings and with changing requirements
    • Desire to thrive in a highly collaborative team atmosphere
