Do you thrive in a fast-paced and varied work environment? SWCA Environmental Consultants is an employee-owned company of environmental professionals who specialize in natural and cultural resource management, environmental planning, and regulatory compliance. We are expanding our team in Austin, and we are looking for an experienced Natural Resources Project Manager to assist with the planning and execution of projects in Texas and the general region 

 

As a core member of the Natural Resources Program, we are looking for an individual that is willing to take a lead and collaborative role in pursuing project opportunities, managing small- to medium-sized projects, and supervising and mentoring project team members. Applicant should be able to manage projects related to compliance with the Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, local municipal and county regulations, and other resource planning/permitting relevant in Texas and the general region. Applicant should also be able to schedule and oversee data collection and field studies and plan, prepare, and oversee preparation of deliverables related to environmental permitting, due-diligence surveys, threatened and endangered species habitat assessments, aquatic resources delineations, and critical issues analyses. Applicant should be able to work independently for 40 or more hours per week, on a sometimes unpredictable and fluid schedule. This is a regular, full-time position for an applicant located in Austin, Texas. 

What you will accomplish

  • Experience managing multiple, fast-paced projects and being detail-oriented, including development and implementation of budgets, schedules, scopes of work, safety protocols, and effective communication.
  • Prepare reports and permit documents as the primary author and conduct quality assurance/quality control for a variety of renewable energy project types and sizes.
  • Implement federal, state and local regulations governing natural resource management in Texas and the region. 
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to project team members.
  • Engage with clients and participate in successful business development and proposal writing.

Experience and qualifications for success

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in biology, botany, environmental science, natural resource management, or other related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of combined experience managing all aspects of projects, including developing and implementing budgets, schedules, and scopes of work from pre-field tasks to final report preparation and ensuring that project quality is met.
  • Experience managing renewable energy projects and preparing report and permit documents as the primary author for renewable energy projects.
  • Demonstrated business development success and consulting acumen, including successful proposal writing, engagement with clients and internal management, and leading client meetings. 
  • Working knowledge of federal, state and/or local regulations (e.g., Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, and Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act) governing natural resource management in Texas and the region. 
  • Established credibility with federal and state agencies.
  • Experienced with preparing reports as primary author and conducting quality assurance/quality control for a variety of project types and sizes and for a variety of agencies, such as the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. 
  • Demonstrated experience in increasing levels of responsibility, including leading project teams for a variety of project types and sizes, supervising, providing leadership, and mentoring for other professionals. 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • 5 years of project management experience specific to renewable energy projects.
  • Experience conducting biological fieldwork. 
  • Familiarity with mapping software such as ArcGIS and use of GPS devices.
  • 5 years of knowledge, understanding, and implementation of federal, state and/or local regulations governing natural resource management in Texas.  
  • Experience preparing reports and permits as primary author for variety of renewable energy project types and sizes.
  • Demonstrated business development success, including proposal writing, budget development, and client interaction.

 

Additional Information: 

  • Must have valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to travel to project locations to conduct some biological fieldwork in Texas.
  • Ability and willingness to travel for client/project meetings and conferences.
