About the opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants’ is actively seeking to fill a Project-Level Environmental Planner (Project, Associate Project and/or Assistant Project Environmental Planner) position, located in Nevada. We are willing to consider remote-based candidates in other areas. This position is a career growth opportunity to join SWCA’s expanding environmental planning practice. You will be responsible for performing environmental impact planning and regulatory planning, facilitating public and government land management coordination, and participating in, and providing regulatory oversight during, the development of permitting applications and approval documents.  

 

This is a regular, full-time, hourly position (with benefits) that is a career growth opportunity to join SWCA’s expanding Nevada environmental planning practice. The title/level and compensation of the Project Environmental Planner will be based on individual qualifications and experience. This requisition can hire at three levels:

  • Project Environmental Planner; typically, with minimum (7) years of experience and expertise.
  • Associate Environmental Planner; typically, with minimum (5) years of experience and expertise.
  • Assistant Environmental Planner; typically, with minimum (3) years of relevant experience and expertise.

What you will accomplish

  • Assisting projects involving the preparation of local, state, and federal permitting applications.  These will address the development of a wide variety of projects for private developers and stakeholders, including local land use approvals. 
  • Participating in projects that include: consultations with local zoning/planning officials and local land use permit applications, local/state/federal permitting, desktop resource assessments and constraints analyses, Stakeholder engagement, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents, and Clean Water Act (CWA) Section 404/401 permitting -- including Nationwide Permitting and CWA Individual Permits.
  • Assist staff with preparation of NEPA related analyses documents such as Environmental Assessments (EAs) or Environmental Impact Statements (EISs) and contributing documents.
  • Assist staff with federal and state permitting applications. (i.e. extensive BLM permitting, completion reports, Notice Plan Level of Operations, Plans of Development and Applications for Permits to Drill).
  • Work may include project compliance or fieldwork support, budget and milestone coordination, and proposal or scope-of-work development support.
  • Work closely with, and be mentored by, industry leading environmental planners and permitters.

Experience and qualifications for success

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental planning, biology, ecology, environmental studies or related field.
  • Minimum (3) years of relevant environmental planning experience required.
  • Good written, logic, organizational, oral, analytical, and document management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, including an ability to work on more than one project at a time.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform under pressure with schedule constraints.
  • Ability to gauge project workload and manage priorities.
  • Willingness to learn, have fun, and grow into increased management responsibilities.
  • Strong organizational and computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Project, Power Point) and Adobe Acrobat.

Preferred qualifications:

  • (7) years of relevant environmental planning experience.
  • Master’s degree in environmental planning, biology, ecology, environmental studies, or related field.
  • Permitting experience.

An employee in this Nevada - based position can expect the following rates:

  • Project Environmental Planner - $70,720.00 - $91,520.00 annually
  • Associate Project Environmental Planner - $30.00 - $38.50/hourly, non-exempt
  • Assistant Project Environmental Planner- $26.50 - $34.00/hourly, non-exempt

 

Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law.  Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
