SWCA Environmental Consultants is expanding their team and looking for dynamic individuals who are following their passion in work and life. We are looking for Cultural Resources Field Techicians with experience in Austin and Central Texas archaeology. These are temporary, part-time, field technician positions with project work located within central Texas and Oklahoma. The staff member(s) will be assisting the Crew Chiefs and Field Directors in completion of Phase I cultural resource survey efforts. Applicant(s) should be able to work for 40 or more hours per week on a sometimes unpredictable and/or fluid schedule. Wages are hourly and based on level of experience, with overtime paid for time worked over 40 hours.

What you will accomplish

  • The work will generally include archaeological pedestrian survey supplemented with shovel testing Central Texas and Oklahoma.
  • Conduct archaeological fieldwork including Phase I cultural resource survey and potentially Phase II National Register evaluative testing, Phase III data recovery, as well as monitoring
  • Use of topographic maps, aerial photographs, GPS units, and other maps and tools to carry out required job functions.
  • Assist with mapping responsibilities in the field, including collection of GPS data using Trimble units. 
  

Experience and qualifications for success

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology, Archaeology or closely related field required
  • Completion of an accredited Archaeology field school or comparable experience required
  • Previous experience preferred, especially in Central Texas region
  • Ability to travel to a location, walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather, rugged terrain, often  at high altitudes, and ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds is required
  • Knowledge of Trimbles or using data gathering tablets is a plus
