This position is a regular, full-time, hourly position and will primarily be field-based. Under supervision of a Cultural Resources Team Lead and Project Manager, an Assistant Project Archaeologist-Field Director performs field and office tasks while working with and supervising crew members.   The Field Director will manage all aspects of fieldwork, supervising one or more crews of archaeological surveyors, monitors, and/or excavators. They may also assist with office-based tasks, including preparation of site forms and technical reports in support of a variety of renewable energy, oil and gas, energy transmission, transportation, and land development projects. Some projects include overtime hours or prevailing wage rates, and often require travel and overnight stays. Project-related travel and lodging costs are covered, and per diem is provided for project work requiring overnight stays. All regular status employees are eligible to participate in SWCA medical, dental, vision, employee assistance, wellness, life and disability plans, and are eligible to participate in the SWCA 401(k) Profit Sharing Plan and Trust. In addition, a technical (i.e., cell phone) allowance is offered. Pay rate will be based on individual qualifications and experience.   Anticipated fieldwork will occur throughout Nevada, including within active U.S. military facilities. SWCA is looking for an Assistant Project Archaeologist who will act as a Field Director, based out of our Denver, Colorado, office to assist with a variety of projects in Colorado, and Wyoming. Project work will likely include pedestrian and shovel-test surveys and may include construction monitoring, data recovery, or other field tasks.You will lead crews in identifying cultural materials, collecting data with tablets, recording sites using state-specific protocols, and making National Register of Historic Places evaluations. You will coordinate with the Project Manager daily, planning and coordinating fieldwork. This is an on-call, hourly position. We are currently looking for assistance for summer and fall fieldwork with the potential for winter office work.    This is a temporary position with the potential for regular status based on workload.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is a federal agency whose regulations and processes affect many of SWCA’s natural gas clients, and guiding projects through the FERC permitting process is a major service offering of SWCA. Continued growth associated with SWCA’s FERC natural gas strategy and permitting practice requires the addition of a visionary technical leader who partners with peers across the organization to share insights and information, working together to build business and shape the direction of SWCA.  In the position of Project Management Technical Director – FERC, this candidate will bring proven technical leadership related to execution and management of SWCA’s FERC-regulated natural gas clients and projects.   The Director will have enterprise-level accountability for the quality of service within the FERC practice across SWCA and will collaborate with other leaders to ensure that SWCA has leading expertise in the discipline and is employing state-of-the-art strategies, processes, methodologies, and tools.  The Director will lead complex projects or tasks specific to the FERC practice; develop standard methodologies and tools; establish measures of quality; mentor other FERC practitioners; lead or contribute to business development pursuits and management of strategic clients; and coordinate with other Directors, technical leads, and project managers to implement SWCA’s FERC practice.   The selected individual will be an experienced leader with recognized expertise managing the FERC natural gas project permitting process, as well as interfacing with project managers and leaders within the FERC agency and other interested parties such as state and local regulatory agencies.   This position is available for distributed work in the continental US, or hybrid or office based work at any of our 39 offices nationwide.    A letter of interest and resume are required for this application.

SWCA Environmental Consultants is expanding their cultural resource team and looking for dynamic individuals who are following their passion in delivering the highest-quality project work. Our Pittsburgh office offers a unique work environment and specializes in complex cultural resource management projects.    SWCA’s Pittsburgh Office has six to eight weeks of fieldwork (including Phase II evaluations) scheduled to start on October 17, in the Mid-Atlantic and Mid-west regions. Beyond these initial projects, there is a potential for additional projects to follow. Pay rate will be based on experience, with overtime paid at time-and-a-half, $59/day per diem, no receipts required. Single occupancy hotels will be provided for out of town employees. Work will consist of six, 10-hour days, with Sundays off. Per Diem and hotel will be provided on Sunday.     An employee in this position out of the Pittsburgh office,can expect a rate between $18.00 and $21.00 per hour, depending on experience, geographic locations, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law.  Employees in this position are eligible for consideration for SWCA’s annual bonus program, which provides awards based on individual and organizational performance.
